What changes the price on a removal
A tree we can fell in one piece costs less than one we have to take apart. Where one piece isn't safe, we dismantle from the top down and use rigging to control each section on the way down, and that means more crew time. Chipping the brush and grinding the stump are priced in when they're part of the job, so tell us up front whether you want the stump gone or left.
How height and access affect the bill
Limbs hanging over a roof, a fence or a driveway are what push a removal toward sectioning. If the drop zone is clear, the tree may come down simply. If it isn't, a climber goes up on the arborist climbing line and lowers the wood piece by piece. We look at the real site before putting a figure on it, because what's overhead and underneath changes the work more than the tree's size alone.

Season and weather
Ocala gets about 48 inches of rain a year, mostly from June through September. June is the wettest month at around 7.6 inches, and November the driest at about 1.8. Candler soil here drains well, so a wet week doesn't automatically stop a job, but we'll move a removal to a drier stretch when conditions make the work riskier. Scheduling in the drier months gives us the most room.
When a smaller job will do
Not every quote ends in a removal. If one limb is the problem, we cut just outside the branch collar instead of flush to the trunk. For a reduction cut, we cut back to a lateral at least one-third the diameter of the piece coming off. Those jobs cost less than taking the tree down.

Getting a number that fits your tree
We don't list one average price for removal because the range is too wide to be useful. Planting runs $200 to $700 per tree and cabling runs $200 to $350 per tree. Removal is figured separately once we've seen the tree and the space around it. Call us and we'll set up a visit and go through what the job will take.

The Job, Done Right
We do the job right the first time, clean up after ourselves, and stand behind the work.
Depending on what we find, that can mean:
- Decide whether workers will climb or use an aerial lift, and assess whether the tree can safely support rigging forces.
- Mark the drop zone, keep ground workers clear during overhead cutting, and establish a visual or audible communication system.

Straight Answers to Common Questions
How much does an arborist charge per hour?
Certified arborists typically bill $75 to $250 per hour for consulting or hands-on work. Hourly rates reflect specialized knowledge of tree health, structural assessment, and safety protocols. Larger jobs are more often quoted as flat project prices rather than hourly.
Do you tip a tree service crew?
Tipping is optional but appreciated for crews that complete difficult or hazardous work safely and cleanly. A common range is $20–$50 per worker or 10–15% of the total job when service exceeds expectations. Cash or gift cards given directly to the crew is standard practice.
How to pick a tree removal service?
Verify insurance, certifications, and references before hiring. Request written estimates that detail equipment, cleanup, and stump handling. Ask how the crew will protect property and power lines, and confirm they follow safety steps such as inspecting equipment and establishing clear drop zones.
